The villa
It was love at first sight between Hanneke and this 1913 villa. Her dream house, with a garden that was exactly old, wild and large enough. Living in the green, yet within walking distance of the town centre, the hospital and the station.
How the house looked
When she found it, the house was still untouched. Take a look around via the virtual tour:
The tour shows the villa before renovation.
She could picture it clearly: she would live on the ground floor, and upstairs a pleasant writer's retreat would take shape for authors who want to work in a different environment for a while — seeking inspiration, a deeper level of concentration, or simply wanting to write undisturbed.
It took hard work and creativity to bring the villa up to contemporary standards without doing violence to its old atmosphere. That succeeded, and since September 2026 wordsmiths are welcome here.
In the garden
The shaded, green garden is a pleasant place to be. In the garden wall there is a power socket where a laptop can be plugged in if needed. The garden, together with the adjacent plot, is fully enclosed and accessible only through the wrought-iron garden gate.
The chickens, the cat and the dog are free to roam, but the garden is large enough that they won't bother you. Do keep the gate closed so they don't slip out into the street — beyond the gate lies the city.
Parking is available just behind the garden, in the Rue des Pervenches.
