Villa des Mots is more than a quiet place to work. As a former bookseller, correspondent and wordsmith, Hanneke Koene has an extensive network in and around Villefranche. The following services can be booked optionally — according to your own needs.
Hanneke specialises in children's and young adult literature, but writes mainly for adults herself. She offers her critical eye and feedback to authors writing in Dutch. For French-language writers she works together with Le Moulin des Merveilles. Price depends on volume; minimum € 35 for a maximum of half an hour of reading time, notes and a brief discussion.
Invited to a literary or cultural event? Hanneke can interpret for you. True one-to-one interpretation costs € 35 per hour. If you only need conversational support, it is less expensive — depending on your own command of French, with a minimum of € 15 per hour.
Hanneke knows the booksellers, is at home in the library and has contacts at various cultural institutions in and around the town. She also works as a correspondent for Villefranche-de-Rouergue for La Dépêche du Midi. That opens up possibilities.
Does your work have a French translation, or do you write in French? Then Hanneke can arrange one or more meetings with readers, or an exhibition of original work — from a picture book, for example. A celebratory vernissage would be essential. Costs depend on the activity, funding options and cooperation from your publisher.
When you use the residency, a kitchen-table conversation with Hanneke about you and your work is part of the package. The costs are included in the rental price.
If your work has been translated into French, La Dépêche du Midi may be interested in publishing an article about you. Hanneke arranges this in her capacity as correspondent for Villefranche-de-Rouergue.
If you would like to give a workshop for up to ten participants, that can be arranged. You pay the room rental and a small percentage of the income for promotion and any material costs. A projector is included in the rental. Costs only apply if interest is sufficient.
